India celebrates Children’s Day every year on November 14, marking the birth anniversary of the nation’s first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru. Fondly known as Chacha Nehru, he is remembered for his deep affection for children and his firm belief that young people are the foundation of a nation’s future.

History and Significance of Children’s Day

Jawaharlal Nehru was born on November 14, 1889, and became one of the most influential leaders of the Indian freedom movement. A strong advocate of democracy, secularism, scientific progress, and education, Nehru envisioned a modern India built on knowledge and equality.

Children’s Day, also known as Bal Diwas, has been celebrated since 1954, and it was officially recognised in 1957 after a special government edict. That year, India’s Department of Posts and Telegraphs issued commemorative stamps and first-day covers to honour Nehru’s legacy.

The day aims to raise awareness about children’s rights, education, well-being, and the need to create an environment where every child can grow with dignity and opportunity.

How Children’s Day Is Celebrated

Across India, schools and institutions organise various activities such as cultural performances, sports events, art competitions, and community programmes. Many children dress in Nehru jackets and Gandhi caps to pay tribute to the late Prime Minister. His speeches, thoughts and teachings are remembered for their timeless relevance.

Inspirational Children’s Day Wishes

Here are warm and meaningful Children’s Day messages:

  • Happy Children’s Day! May your smile shine brighter than the sun.

  • Wishing all little stars a day full of joy and discovery.

  • May you always stay curious, brave, and kind.

  • Happy Children’s Day to the superheroes without capes!

  • Keep dreaming, keep shining—Happy Children’s Day!

  • May your innocence and laughter brighten every space you enter.

  • You are the hope of tomorrow—Happy Children’s Day!

  • Wishing you magical moments, endless learning, and a heart full of happiness.

Jawaharlal Nehru’s Famous Quotes

Jawaharlal Nehru’s thoughts continue to inspire generations. Some of his most impactful quotes include:

  • “A moment comes, which comes but rarely in history, when we step out from the old to the new…”

  • “Facts are facts and will not disappear on account of your likes.”

  • “Only through the right education can a better order of society be built.”

  • “A university stands for humanism, for tolerance, for reason, for the adventure of ideas…”

  • “Children are like buds in a garden… the future of the nation.”

  • “The children of today will make the India of tomorrow.”

  • “We live in a wonderful world that is full of beauty, charm, and adventure.”

  • “The policy of being too cautious is the greatest risk of all.”

  • “Culture is the widening of the mind and of the spirit.”

  • “Time is not measured by the passing of years but by what one does…”

Children’s Day is a reminder that nurturing children with love, education and opportunity is the most powerful way to build a brighter, more inclusive future for India.
