Nabarangpur witnessed a dramatic development as the Bhatras expelled former MLA Sadasiva Pradhani and his family for arranging his daughter’s marriage with a man from another caste.
The decision came after the Akhil Bharatiya Bhatra Vikash Parishad’s district unit convened an urgent meeting at Danteshwari temple premises in Dhamanaguda under Jharigaon block. Leaders and representatives from ten blocks attended the gathering. They unanimously resolved to impose a 12-year social boycott on Pradhani’s family.
The Parishad accused the former legislator of violating community norms by supporting an inter-caste marriage. Members declared that during the boycott period, the family will not receive cooperation from Bhatras in social or cultural functions.
The meeting also expelled Ksheersindhu Markam of Chandahandi block’s Ankabeda village for repeatedly marrying outside the community. Leaders stated that his actions breached Bhataras’ traditional rules.
Prominent figures, including Jagadish Nayak, Jagannath Majhi, Ramadhar Majhi, Purna Majhi, Ananta Sori, Pratap Chandra Nayak, Motiram Samarth, and Naveen Chandra Bhatra, participated in the decision-making process. Hundreds of community workers joined the meeting, reinforcing the collective stance.
