A NEET aspirant allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself from an iron grille of her room in Parshavnath area ahead of the national medical entrance exam scheduled on Sunday, police said.

The girl, originally from Sheopur, Madhya Pradesh, had been living in Kota with her parents and preparing for the medical entrance test at a local coaching institute.

The incident occurred in Parshavnath area under the jurisdiction of Kunhadi police station, according to Circle Inspector Arvind Bhardwaj. The student reportedly used a scarf to hang herself from an iron grille in her room. Her family, who was at home during the time, discovered her unresponsive around 9 PM.

Police confirmed that no suicide note was found, and the body has been sent for postmortem.

The student’s identity is being withheld due to her age. Authorities are continuing their investigation.

Alarming Trend in Kota
This is the 14th reported student suicide in Kota in 2025 alone, underscoring the rising mental health concerns in the city’s high-pressure academic environment. In 2024, 17 student suicides were reported in Kota, reflecting a grim trend that continues to spark national concern.

With NEET-UG scheduled across the country on Sunday, May 5, the tragedy has again drawn attention to the emotional and psychological toll competitive exams place on young aspirants.

Authorities and child welfare activists are renewing their calls for urgent mental health interventions, student counseling, and pressure management programs in Kota’s coaching ecosystem.
