A Class VIII student drowned in a village pond at Baipariguda block on Friday, sparking grief across the community.
The accident occurred in Chikima village under the Bodaput panchayat. After returning from school, the three daughters of Gaurang Khada went to bathe in the pond along with two other girls. During bathing, all three sisters slipped into deep water. Villagers managed to rescue two, but 13-year-old Babli Khada, a Class VIII student, went missing.
Local youths searched the pond but failed to trace Babli. The villagers immediately informed Baipariguda fire services. Fire personnel reached the spot and recovered Babli from the pond. By then, she had already died.
Baipariguda police arrived at Chikima village, seized the body, and conducted a post-mortem. Later, they handed over the body to the grieving family.
