Rasabihari Mohanty, Former Multi-Purpose Health Supervisor and in-charge of the Vital Statistics Section at UGPHC, Patkura in Kendrapada district, was convicted in a bribery case on Monday.
The Special Judge, Vigilance, Cuttack, sentenced him to four years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine.
Odisha Vigilance had charge-sheeted Mohanty under Section 13(2) read with 13(1)(d) and Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988. He was found guilty of demanding and accepting a bribe from a complainant for issuing a death certificate of her deceased father.
Following the conviction, Mohanty was sent to jail custody to serve his sentence. Vigilance officials confirmed that they will move the competent authority to stop his pension benefits.
