Pravakar Panda, Former ASI of Police at Banai PS in Sundargarh district, and his spouse, Geetanjali Patra, Former Assistant Teacher at Government High School, Jhirpani, Rourkela, were convicted in a disproportionate assets case on Monday.
The Special Judge, Vigilance, Sundargarh, sentenced both to one year of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 1,00,000 each.
Odisha Vigilance had charge-sheeted the couple under Section 13(2) read with 13(1)(e) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, for possessing assets beyond their known sources of income. The court also directed the state government to initiate steps for realisation of disproportionate assets from their movable and immovable properties.
Following the conviction, Vigilance will move the competent authority to stop the pension benefits of both Pravakar Panda and Geetanjali Patra.
