Kataka DCP festival donation warning

With the festive season approaching, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Kataka Rishikesh Khilari, has issued a stern warning against forced collection of donations (chanda) in the city.

The DCP made it clear that any form of coercion or extortion in the name of festival contributions is strictly prohibited. Citizens have been advised to immediately report such incidents by calling 112, with assurances that their identity will remain confidential.

Police have prepared a list of professional offenders and warned that strict legal action will be taken against individuals, clubs, or puja committees found guilty of forced collections. The directive follows High Court instructions mandating zero tolerance towards coercive chanda practices.

In recent years, complaints of forced donations during festivals have surfaced, prompting police to adopt proactive measures. The DCP emphasised that voluntary contributions are welcome, but any pressure or intimidation will not be tolerated.

Residents have been urged to stay alert and cooperate with police to ensure a peaceful and safe festive season in Kataka.
