Residents across Odisha received welcome relief from soaring temperatures as Kalbaisakhi thunderstorms swept through several parts of the state, bringing rain, gusty winds and cooler weather conditions.
According to the Regional Meteorological Centre, temperatures are expected to fall by another 2 to 4 degrees Celsius over the next 24 hours. However, weather experts have indicated that the relief may be short-lived, with temperatures likely to rise again after two days.
Kalbaisakhi Activity Lowers Temperatures
The recent spell of Kalbaisakhi has significantly improved weather conditions across Odisha. Increased cloud cover, rainfall and strong winds have helped reduce daytime temperatures in many districts.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast continued thunderstorm activity in several regions, creating favourable conditions for temporary cooling.
Sambalpur Experiences Strong Storm Activity
Sambalpur witnessed intense Kalbaisakhi conditions on Saturday evening. Around 8 pm, strong winds and rain lashed the city and nearby areas.
A large dust storm accompanied the weather system, reducing visibility and affecting normal activities for a brief period. Residents experienced a sudden change in weather after days of intense heat.
Bhubaneswar and Cuttack Under Weather Watch
The Twin Cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack are expected to remain under cloudy skies throughout the day.
Meteorologists have predicted afternoon showers accompanied by lightning, thunderstorms and gusty winds in urban and surrounding areas. Residents have been advised to remain alert during periods of sudden weather activity and avoid open spaces during lightning events.
The changing weather pattern has provided temporary relief from heat stress, especially during afternoon hours.
IMD Predicts More Rain and Thunderstorms
The IMD has stated that Kalbaisakhi conditions are likely to continue influencing Odisha’s weather over the coming days.
Several districts may witness intermittent rainfall, thunderstorms and gusty winds. Increased moisture and atmospheric instability are expected to support further storm development across the state.
Weather officials have also warned that localised heavy rainfall, lightning strikes and strong winds could occur in some areas.
Temporary Relief Before Temperatures Rise Again
While the current weather system has reduced temperatures across Odisha, forecasters believe the cooling trend may not last long.
According to the latest forecast, temperatures could rise by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius after the next 48 hours as storm activity gradually weakens.
Despite the expected increase, the ongoing rain and cloud cover have offered much-needed relief to residents who have been experiencing prolonged hot and humid conditions.
Authorities continue to advise people to monitor weather updates and take necessary precautions during thunderstorms, especially in areas vulnerable to lightning and strong winds.
