In a major judgment, the Balasore Independent and P.I.D. Court, under the guidance of Judge Biswajit Das, sentenced Samrendra Malick to life imprisonment for a murder committed in Pichhabania under Nilagiri police limits.
The murder was linked to a heated land dispute where the accused fatally struck the victim using a weapon.
Based on the evidence of 15 witnesses and 18 pieces of documentary proof, the court imposed life imprisonment along with a Rs 5,000 fine on the accused. The case, filed under Nilagiri Case No. 221 dated 8.7.22, was registered under Section 302 of the IPC and Section 27 of the Arms Act. The prosecution was carried out by Independent Public Prosecutor Pranab Panda, while Biranchi Sahu was the investigating officer.
