Union Minister for Tribal Affairs Jual Oram visited the Eklavya Model Residential School (EMRS) in Bazpur, Udham Singh Nagar district, on Friday to participate in a series of events marking Gandhi Jayanti and the ongoing ‘Swachhata Hi Seva 2026’ campaign.
The Union Minister commenced his visit by paying floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi and former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri.
Accompanied by students, teachers, and local community members, Oram partook in a campus cleanliness drive, administered the cleanliness pledge, and planted a sapling under the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ initiative. Emphasising the importance of civic responsibility, he noted that cleanliness should be embraced as a lifelong value contributing to better health and sustainable development.
During his interactive session, Oram engaged directly with the tribal students, discussing their academics, personal interests, and future career aspirations. He also toured student exhibitions displaying models on waste management and environmental conservation. Reaffirming the government’s commitment, the Minister stated that providing top-tier education, resources, and equal opportunities to children from remote and tribal backgrounds is a national priority.
Additionally, Oram announced plans to upgrade EMRS Bazpur into a “centre of excellence” matching premier schools. Joined by district officials during his four-day Uttarakhand tour, he also plans to inaugurate the Uttarakhand Aadi Rangotsav.
