Actor Janhvi Kapoor made a dazzling debut at the Cannes Film Festival, capturing global attention not only with her presence but also with a heartfelt tribute to her late mother, Sridevi.
Janhvi walked the red carpet ahead of the premiere of her film Homebound, dressed in a graceful, rose-hued ensemble designed by Tarun Tahiliani.
The outfit, crafted from real tissue fabric specially woven in Benaras, featured a hand-crushed finish and was styled with a veil over her low bun, exuding timeless elegance. She completed the look with pearl jewellery, channeling the sophistication her mother was known for. Social media users and fashion commentators were quick to draw parallels, with many saying the look was “giving Sridevi” and “reminded me of Sridevi.”
According to fashion watchdog Diet Sabya, Janhvi’s look was a “channeling of mother Sri for her first Cannes red carpet lewk,” celebrating Sridevi’s legacy of wearing traditional Indian silhouettes with modern flair.
Janhvi was accompanied on the red carpet by her Homebound co-stars Ishaan Khatter and Vishal Jethwa, along with director Neeraj Ghaywan and producer Karan Johar. The film explores the story of two friends from a North Indian village whose bond is tested when they join the police force.
Homebound was screened in the prestigious Un Certain Regard section at Cannes. The film has the backing of legendary director Martin Scorsese as executive producer, with production led by Karan Johar, Adar Poonawalla, Apoorva Mehta, and Somen Mishra. Co-producers include Marijke de Souza and Melita Toscan Du Plantier.
Janhvi’s Cannes debut marks a significant milestone in her career, celebrating not only a global platform but also the legacy of one of India’s most iconic film stars.
