Superstar Rajinikanth continues to prove why he remains the ultimate box office emperor. His latest action thriller, Jailer 2, has successfully overtaken the lifetime domestic collections of major box office rivals Border 2 and Hanuman Ansh, cementing its status as one of the biggest blockbusters of the year.
Despite a natural slowdown and a dip in business on its second Friday following a week-long festive break, the Nelson Dilipkumar directorial minted an impressive Rs 14.50 crore nett in India on its ninth day, according to Sacnilk. This latest addition pushes the film’s total nine-day domestic collection to a staggering Rs 348.85 crore, bringing it tantalisingly close to the coveted Rs 350 crore milestone. Globally, the film’s juggernaut stands at a massive Rs 628.05 crore.
A Stellar Opening and Record-Breaking Week
The Rajinikanth-starrer kicked off its theatrical journey with a massive domestic opening of Rs 59.70 crore across 15,887 shows. Driven by tremendous hype, advance bookings began on October 10—five days prior to its release—and crossed Rs 80 crore worldwide by October 14.
Maintaining its momentum, the film crossed the Rs 300 crore net mark in India within its first week alone, wrapping up its initial seven-day run with a domestic net collection of Rs 334.35 crore.
Surpassing Major Competitors
With its latest earnings, Jailer 2 has officially outpaced Border 2, which closed its run with a reported Rs 329 crore, and Hanuman Ansh, which brought in Rs 339 crore. Trade analysts predict that the film will easily gain momentum over the current second weekend, with domestic collections projected to inch closer to the Rs 380 crore mark.
About Jailer 2
Written and directed by Nelson Dilipkumar and produced by Kalanithi Maran under the Sun Pictures banner, Jailer 2 serves as the highly anticipated sequel to the 2023 blockbuster Jailer.
The film brings back beloved characters alongside franchise veterans. Rajinikanth reprises his iconic role as Muthu, joined by returning cast members Ramya Krishnan, Yogi Babu, Mirnaa, and Rithvik. The sequel also boasts a stellar ensemble cast featuring SJ Suryah, Mithun Chakraborty, Suraj Venjaramoodu, and Vidya Balan, alongside high-profile cameo appearances by Mohanlal, Shiva Rajkumar, and Jackie Shroff.
Picking up after the dramatic events of the first film—where Muthu eliminated Varman (Vinayakan) and was warned about a dangerous network of idol smugglers—the sequel plunges Muthu right back into the fire. While trying to live a quiet life as a supermarket supervisor and shielding his family from the grim reality that he killed his son Arjun (Vasanth Ravi) to protect them, fresh threats emerge. As Dileep (Suraj Venjaramoodu) hunts for the person disrupting the smuggling ring, Muthu’s past catches up with him, forcing him to rely on trusted old allies and new faces to confront the ultimate danger.
As the second weekend unfolds, all eyes are on Jailer 2 as it charges aggressively toward its next major box office milestones.
