In a significant diplomatic move following the Israel–Lebanon ceasefire, Iran has announced that the Strait of Hormuz will remain fully open to all commercial vessels for the duration of the two‑week truce coordinated with the United States.
The announcement, made by Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, comes as a relief to global markets, given the strait’s critical role in energy and trade flows.
The development immediately drew the attention of the US President Donald Trump, who took the issue to Truth Social, and expressed his gratitude to the Islamic Republic.
Araghchi emphasised that vessels must adhere to the coordinated routes set by Iran’s Ports and Maritime Organisation, ensuring safe passage during this period of reduced regional tension.
The decision is being hailed as a stabilising gesture, offering nations worldwide a temporary assurance of uninterrupted maritime trade.
