Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi spoke with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar for the fourth time since January 18, urging stronger BRICS cooperation amid escalating tensions in the Middle East.

Araghchi briefed Jaishankar on what Tehran described as US and Israeli attacks and their impact on regional and global stability. He stressed Iran’s determination to exercise its right to self-defence and called on international organisations to condemn what he termed military aggression.

Araghchi highlighted the importance of BRICS nations in supporting global stability and urged India to play a constructive role. He said Iran values cooperation with India both bilaterally and within multilateral forums.

Jaishankar assured that India is ready to expand cooperation in regional and international platforms. He emphasised the need to strengthen lasting stability and security in the region, reflecting India’s balanced approach to the crisis.

This marks the fourth call between Araghchi and Jaishankar since the US and Israeli strikes on Iran triggered retaliation from Tehran. The repeated outreach underscores Iran’s push for diplomatic backing from BRICS partners as tensions continue to rise.
