Iran Calls for ‘Human Chains’ to Protect Power Plants as Trump Deadline Intensifies US-Iran Tensions

Iran has called on citizens, including athletes and artists, to form “human chains” to protect critical infrastructure as tensions escalate with the United States ahead of a key deadline set by Donald Trump.

With less than 24 hours remaining before the deadline to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, the situation continues to intensify, drawing global attention.

Iran Urges Civilian Mobilisation to Protect Infrastructure

Iran’s Deputy Sports Minister, Alireza Rahimi, has appealed to public figures and citizens to stand together in defence of power plants.

He emphasised that targeting civilian infrastructure would constitute a violation of international norms, stating that people will “stand hand in hand” to prevent such actions.

This move highlights Iran’s strategy to involve civil society in safeguarding essential services amid escalating military threats.

Trump Issues Strong Warning on Power Plants

Donald Trump has warned that Iran’s power plants could face severe consequences if Tehran does not comply with US demands.

The US President stated that key infrastructure could be “burning, exploding and never to be used again” if Iran fails to act before the deadline. He also suggested that military action could escalate rapidly.

The warning is part of broader pressure on Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, a vital global oil transit route.

Iran Rejects US Threats as ‘Baseless’

Iranian officials have strongly dismissed the US statements, calling them “baseless” and “arrogant.”

Ebrahim Zolfaghari, spokesperson for the Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, said the threats would not impact Iran’s ongoing military operations.

He added that Iran remains committed to continuing its strategy despite external pressure.

Iran Proposes Conditions for Ceasefire

Even as tensions rise, Iran has presented a 10-point proposal aimed at ending the conflict.

According to Mojtaba Ferdousi Pour, Tehran is open to a ceasefire under specific conditions, including:

  • Guarantees against future attacks
  • Removal of US-imposed sanctions
  • Safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz
  • Recognition of Iran’s right to uranium enrichment under international agreements

The proposal also calls for broader peace talks within 15 to 20 days.

Global Stakes Continue to Rise

The ongoing standoff has raised concerns worldwide, particularly due to the strategic importance of the Strait of Hormuz, through which a significant portion of global oil supply passes.

Any disruption in the region could impact energy markets, trade routes, and economic stability across multiple countries.

As the deadline approaches, the international community continues to monitor developments closely, with growing calls for restraint and diplomatic resolution.
