The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced that the IPL 2027 mini‑auction will be hosted in India, marking a departure from the recent trend of staging auctions overseas in Dubai, Jeddah, and Abu Dhabi.
According to reports, the decision was finalised during the IPL Governing Council meeting on September 15. While the upcoming event will be a mini‑auction, the next year’s mega auction could again be staged abroad.
Franchises had raised concerns about the logistical and operational challenges of sending delegations overseas for a mini‑auction. The governing council responded by opting for an Indian venue, though the exact city is yet to be announced.
The BCCI requires over a hundred rooms for franchise delegations during peak wedding season, which will influence the venue choice. Meanwhile, the council also discussed the Impact Player rule, leaving the decision open and inviting feedback before the next meeting.
