The Insurance Ombudsman Day 2025 took place in Bhubaneswar on November 11. The event highlighted the institution’s role in resolving insurance-related grievances quickly and effectively.
The Government of India established 18 Insurance Ombudsman offices across the country to provide free and speedy redressal of complaints, excluding crop insurance. The Insurance Ombudsman awards compensation up to Rs. 50 lakh, and insurance companies comply with its orders under the law.
The Bhubaneswar office resolved 1341 complaints during the 2024-25 financial year. Officials confirmed that they settled all cases within 60 days, well before the mandated 90-day deadline. Companies and complainants also resolved many disputes through mutual agreement.
The celebration featured Kailash Chandra Mishra, former Director of the National Insurance Academy and former Vice-Chancellor of Sri Sri University, as the chief guest. He delivered the keynote address and emphasised the importance of consumer awareness and trust in the insurance sector. Secretary Ajay Kumar Das presented a detailed report on last year’s achievements. Birupakshya Panda, Secretary (Non-Life), offered the vote of thanks.
The Ombudsman institution provides free services and eliminates the need for third-party assistance. Policyholders file complaints both online and offline. The Bhubaneswar office shared its contact details, including the official website www.cioins.co.in, email oio.bhubaneswar@cioins.co.in, and helpline numbers.
The Insurance Ombudsman Day 2025 reinforced the government’s commitment to consumer protection and transparency in the insurance sector. The Bhubaneswar office continues to serve as a vital platform for resolving disputes and ensuring justice for policyholders.
