India batter Yashasvi Jaiswal has been ruled out of Mumbai’s upcoming Ranji Trophy semi-final against Vidarbha due to an ankle injury.
Jaiswal sustained the injury during a training session, rendering him unfit for the semi-final on February 16. The injury comes just days after he was dropped from India’s Champions Trophy squad, making it a double blow for the young cricketer.
His omission from the Champions Trophy squad was due to his underwhelming ODI debut against England, and the selectors chose spin specialist Varun Chakravarthy instead.
Jaiswal’s absence is not expected to significantly disrupt Mumbai’s batting lineup, which includes experienced players like Ajinkya Rahane, Suryakumar Yadav, Shivam Dube, and Shardul Thakur. Mumbai is yet to announce a replacement for Jaiswal.
Jaiswal’s injury denies him the chance to regain form and make a quick comeback after his exclusion from the Champions Trophy squad, adding pressure on Mumbai to adjust their strategy for the semi-final.
