In a tense mid-air episode, an IndiGo flight from Guwahati to Chennai carrying 168 passengers was forced to make an emergency landing in Bengaluru after the pilot declared a ‘fuel mayday’ due to congestion-related delays at Chennai airport.
According to reports, the flight was nearing Chennai around 7:45 PM, but was unable to land due to runway congestion. The pilot then diverted the aircraft to Kempegowda International Airport, Bengaluru. About 35 minutes prior to landing, the captain issued a distress signal, indicating the aircraft was running low on fuel.
The flight landed safely at 8:15 PM, with emergency services on standby, including air traffic control, fire brigades, and medical teams. No injuries were reported.
The incident comes just days after a tragic Air India crash in Ahmedabad that claimed over 270 lives, adding to growing public concern about aviation safety.
Although IndiGo has yet to issue an official statement, both pilots have been de-rostered as part of standard post-incident procedures.
A passenger on the flight described the landing as abrupt and steep, leaving many on board visibly shaken.
