Authorities in Odisha’s Puri district have intensified raids on khaja manufacturing units ahead of the festive season to curb adulteration and ensure food safety.
On Tuesday, the Food Safety Unit and district administration carried out inspections in Dolamandap Sahi near the Shree Jagannath Temple, seizing sugar syrup, eight domestic LPG cylinders, and around four quintals of khaja.
Officials confirmed that five khaja units were sealed for violating food safety norms, while two pushcarts were also seized. Raids are continuing across the town to ensure sweets sold to devotees and visitors meet safety standards.
The latest crackdown follows an earlier operation in which five quintals of khaja and syrup were destroyed and four units sealed.
Khaja, a traditional sweet closely linked to Lord Jagannath’s temple rituals, sees soaring demand during festivals, prompting authorities to tighten checks on its preparation and sale.
