In a transformative step for cancer rehabilitation, the Ministry of Ayush inaugurated the Integrative Oncology Research and Care Centre (IORCC) at the All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA), Dhargal, Goa, on the occasion of the 10th National Ayurveda Day.
This pioneering facility is the first-of-its-kind in India, integrating Ayurveda, Yoga, Panchakarma, Physiotherapy, Diet Therapy, and modern oncology under one roof.
The virtual inauguration was led by Shri Pusapati Ashok Gajapathi Raju, Governor of Goa, with dignitaries including Dr. Pramod Sawant, Chief Minister of Goa; Shri Prataprao Jadhav, Union MoS (Independent Charge), Ministry of Ayush; Shri Shripad Yesso Naik, Union MoS, Ministry of Power; and Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha, Secretary, Ministry of Ayush.
🌿 A New Model for Cancer Care
The IORCC aims to improve recovery outcomes, reduce side effects, and enhance quality of life for cancer patients through a multidisciplinary approach. The centre is a collaborative effort with ACTREC-Tata Memorial Centre, setting a benchmark for integrative oncology in India.
Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant hailed the initiative as a “landmark step” in India’s fight against cancer, emphasizing the synergy between conventional treatments and Ayurvedic therapies.
🧠 Research, Training, and Innovation
Led by Prof. Dr. Sujata Kadam, Dean of AIIA Goa, and Dr. Sanjay Khedekar, the centre will serve as a hub for clinical care, advanced research, and capacity-building in AYUSH-based cancer rehabilitation. The team includes renowned oncologists and integrative medicine experts such as Dr. Shekhar Salkar.
Prof. P.K. Prajapati, Director of AIIA Delhi, highlighted the centre’s role in developing validated protocols that combine traditional wisdom with biomedical science.
🏥 National Health Integration
The IORCC aligns with India’s National Health Policy and global best practices, reinforcing Ayush’s role as a catalyst for inclusive, evidence-informed healthcare. The Ministry envisions replicating this model across the country to strengthen India’s healthcare ecosystem.
