Prime Minister Narendra Modi delivered a powerful address on the occasion of the 17th Civil Services Day, laying out a vision for India’s future governance and development.
Speaking at Vigyan Bhawan, he underscored the critical role of civil servants in shaping policies that will influence the country’s progress for the next thousand years.
PM Modi emphasised the importance of holistic development, ensuring that essential services like clean water, quality education, financial accessibility, and digital infrastructure reach every citizen. He also highlighted how the government has moved beyond incremental reforms to transformative change, setting new benchmarks in governance and transparency.
“In the age of technology, governance is not about managing systems—it is about multiplying possibilities,” he stated. He stressed the need for civil services to adapt to global advancements, particularly in artificial intelligence and quantum computing, to enhance public administration efficiency.
One of the key themes of his speech was Mission Karmayogi, aimed at making civil servants future-ready through continuous capacity building. PM Modi encouraged bureaucrats to embrace innovation and eliminate bureaucratic inefficiencies to foster an enabling environment for entrepreneurship.
He also highlighted India’s leadership on the global stage, particularly through the country’s successful G20 Presidency. “India is not just participating—it is leading,” he affirmed.
As the nation moves forward, PM Modi called for a paradigm shift in governance, focusing on last-mile delivery, the use of technology in policymaking, and fostering an ease-of-business environment. Civil servants were urged to become enablers rather than regulators, ensuring that India becomes the world’s third-largest economy at the earliest.
The event also saw the conferring of the Prime Minister’s Awards for Excellence in Public Administration, recognising outstanding contributions in governance.
