Indian Navy warship on Wednesday rescued nine out of the sixteen crew members of the MT Falcon Prestige, an oil tanker that capsized recently off the coast of Oman.
The crew of the Comoros-flagged MT Falcon Prestige consisted of thirteen Indians and three Sri Lankans. Among the rescued were eight Indians and one Sri Lankan.
After transmitting a distress signal on Sunday near the coast of Oman, the MT Falcon Prestige overturned approximately 25 nautical miles southeast of Ras Madrakah in Oman on Monday.
The Oman Maritime Security Centre initiated a search and rescue operation, with coordination of the response. The Indian Navy dispatched the Talwar-class frigate INS Teg to assist in the search and rescue efforts in the vicinity.
The Indian Embassy in Muscat remains in continuous communication with Omani authorities, as reported by sources in New Delhi.
Despite the challenging weather conditions, with rough seas and strong winds, the search and rescue operation involving Indian and Omani naval forces persists in the effort to find the remaining crew members. The Indian Navy has also deployed its Long Range Maritime Reconnaissance aircraft P8I to aid in the search for survivors.
