Cuttack: In a remarkable display of bravery and quick thinking, Indian Navy personnel saved the life of Nandini Das, a 25-year-old woman critically injured in a boat collision on the Mahanadi river in Cuttack.
The incident occurred on Friday when two speedboats collided head-on, leaving Das with severe head injuries.
The collision happened approximately one kilometer from the Bali Yatra ground. The propeller of one of the boat engines struck Das, causing significant bleeding.
Fortunately, a diving team from the Indian Navy was conducting a reconnaissance mission nearby and immediately came to her rescue.
With the ambulance delayed, the Navy personnel carried Das for nearly one kilometer to the nearest police aid post before transporting her to SCB Medical College and Hospital in an auto-rickshaw. Their swift action ensured she received timely medical attention, which was crucial in stabilizing her condition.
Hospital authorities praised the Navy’s prompt response, noting that their intervention averted a potentially critical situation. Das is currently undergoing treatment in the emergency ward and is reported to be out of danger.
