India’s AI revolution is accelerating as the nation’s compute capacity surpasses 34,000 GPUs, marking a critical milestone for the IndiaAI Mission.

The expansion, announced by Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw at the ‘IndiaAI – Make AI in India, Make AI Work for India’ event, aims to democratize AI access and propel the country’s AI leadership forward.

Government’s Commitment to AI Democratisation

Union Minister Vaishnaw emphasised the inclusive vision of AI, ensuring that cutting-edge technology is accessible to a larger population. “Technology should not be left in the hands of a few,” he stated. The IndiaAI Mission is strategically building a comprehensive AI ecosystem, including foundational models, compute capacity, safety standards, and talent development.

IndiaAI Mission

Expansion of AI Computing Power

To support AI research and development, an additional 15,916 GPUs have been integrated into India’s AI infrastructure, bringing the total to 34,333 GPUs. Industry partners have contributed to this expansion, enabling faster training and inference for AI models designed for India’s unique requirements.

New AI Startups Driving Indigenous AI Models

Three new startups—Soket AI, Gnani AI, and Gan AI—have been selected to develop India-specific AI foundation models. Their projects include:

  • Soket AI: Building a 120-billion parameter multilingual foundation model optimised for defence, healthcare, and education.

  • Gnani AI: Developing a 14-billion parameter Voice AI model for multilingual real-time speech processing.

  • Gan AI: Creating a 70-billion parameter AI model with advanced text-to-speech capabilities, surpassing global standards.

AI in Cybercrime Prevention

The IndiaAI I4C CyberGuard AI Hackathon, organised in collaboration with the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C), has led to the development of AI-based solutions for cybercrime classification. These models will improve the accuracy and speed of analysing cybercrime complaints, including interpreting handwritten FIRs, audio calls, and screenshots.

A Growing AI Ecosystem for the Future

IndiaAI is dedicated to technological self-reliance while fostering innovation, ethical AI development, and global AI leadership. With its growing infrastructure and indigenous AI foundation models, India is set to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of AI.
