India’s Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri met US Energy Secretary Chris Wright to discuss expanding cooperation in nuclear power, coal gasification, and LPG exports.
The meeting focused on advancing energy security, strengthening bilateral trade, and identifying new avenues under the India-US Energy Partnership.
US Ambassador Sergei Gor confirmed America’s readiness to cooperate with India on civil nuclear projects, citing the passage of India’s SHANTI Act as a landmark reform. The law, enacted last December, opened civil nuclear space to private participation and repealed older legislation, including the Atomic Energy Act of 1962.
Later, Gor hosted Misri at President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida. He emphasised that India and the US stand ready to work closely across trade, defence, and energy. Misri’s visit also included meetings with senior officials from the defence, commerce, and state departments, as well as Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
India’s Air Chief Marshal A.P. Singh visited the Peterson Space Force Base in Colorado Springs during the same week. He interacted with General Gregory M. Guillot, Commander of US-NORTHCOM/NORAD, to exchange perspectives on operational modalities, reflecting the growing strength of defence ties.
Gor also met US Deputy Secretary of Defence Steve Feinberg and Secretary of the Army Dan Driscoll. Discussions focused on defence sales, interoperability, and momentum in bilateral relations since Driscoll’s January visit to New Delhi.
The visit underscored India’s push to deepen nuclear cooperation and diversify energy imports, while strengthening defence ties with the US. Both sides highlighted the importance of collaboration in securing global energy and strategic stability.
