A KTM RC bike was stolen near Badagada police station in Bhubaneswar after a buyer posing through OLX escaped with the vehicle during a test drive.
According to reports, the victim had listed his KTM RC bike (registration number OD‑05Y‑0512) for sale on OLX. The alleged buyer met him near Badagada police station, inspected the bike, and requested a test ride. Moments later, the suspect disappeared with the vehicle.
CCTV footage from the area and the victim’s complaint have prompted police to launch an investigation. The victim and his friend told police that the accused had carefully examined the bike before asking for a test drive, only to vanish soon after.
Police sources said such incidents of online fraud involving vehicle sales are not uncommon, with criminals posing as buyers and escaping with vehicles during test drives. Investigators are analysing CCTV footage to identify the suspect and trace the stolen bike.
Authorities have urged the public to exercise caution when selling vehicles online. Police advised sellers not to hand over vehicles for test drives to strangers without proper verification, and to meet buyers only in secure locations with companions present.
The Badagada police are continuing their probe and expect to make progress in identifying the accused soon.
