Defending champions India continued their unstoppable run in the SAFF U19 Championship, overpowering Maldives with a convincing 3-0 win in the semi-final at the Golden Jubilee Stadium.
Despite challenging rainy conditions, India showcased a masterclass performance, maintaining their perfect record in the tournament and setting up a thrilling final clash against Bangladesh.
From the opening whistle, India asserted their dominance, pressing high and controlling possession. The relentless attack paid off in the 14th minute when Danny Meitei Laishram struck a stunning left-footed volley off a well-orchestrated corner routine, marking his fifth goal of the tournament.
Six minutes later, India doubled their lead with an excellent team effort. Prashan Jajo provided a perfectly lofted pass, allowing Meitei to set up Omang Dodum, who coolly slotted it home, sending the home crowd into a frenzy.
Maldives struggled to breach India’s solid defense, and any attempts were swiftly dealt with by goalkeeper Suraj Singh Aheibam. As the rain intensified in the second half, India adapted seamlessly. In the 65th minute, Jajo fired a powerful shot from outside the box, which slipped through the Maldives keeper’s grip, sealing India’s 3-0 victory.
With Bangladesh securing a 2-1 win over Nepal in the other semi-final, the tournament now gears up for an electrifying final showdown between two formidable teams. India’s unbeaten streak and defensive solidity set the stage for an epic battle as they strive to defend their title.
Fans eagerly await the clash, hoping to witness yet another stellar performance from the Blue Colts as they aim to lift the SAFF U19 Championship trophy once again.
