India’s sporting contingent delivered a stellar masterclass on Wednesday, securing a guaranteed squash medal alongside a golden triumph in archery at the Asian Games.
The Indian women’s squash team marched into the semifinals in style, posting a dominant 2-0 victory over Singapore to ensure another podium finish. Veteran Tanvi Khanna set the momentum in the opening singles clash, overcoming a spirited challenge from Au Yeong Wai Iynn 11-6, 4-11, 15-13, 11-1 in a gripping 32-minute battle. After a stumble in the second game, Tanvi recovered her composure to edge out a tense 15-13 third game before cruising through the fourth.
Following suit, teenage sensation and individual silver medallist Anahat Singh delivered a masterclass in the second singles. Anahat swept past Au Yeong Wai Yhann 11-7, 11-3, 11-4 in just 22 minutes. With an unassailable 2-0 lead sealed, veteran Joshna Chinappa was spared court time, keeping her fresh for the upcoming fixtures. Having already topped Pool C with wins over Iran, China, and Japan, the team heads to the Nagoya Kinjo Futo Arena on Thursday aiming to upgrade their assured medal.
Meanwhile, the celebrations extended far beyond the squash courts. The women’s compound archery powerhouse trio—Jyothi Surekha Vennam, Chikitha Taniparthi, and Prithika Pradeep—retained their Asian Games crown in breathtaking fashion. The team edged past hosts China 238-234 in a thrilling final, equalling South Korea’s prestigious world record score.
Building on a nail-biting 234-233 semifinal victory over South Korea, the Indian archers replicated their golden heroics from the 2023 Hangzhou Games. As India continues to rack up impressive milestones across disciplines, momentum is firmly on the side of the nation’s elite athletes.
