India’s urban public transit landscape has undergone a monumental shift over the past decade.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently spotlighted the exponential growth of the nation’s metro rail infrastructure, highlighting a leap from a modest 248 kilometers across just 5 cities in 2014 to a sprawling network of nearly 1,200 kilometers spanning 26 cities today.
Emphasising the human impact behind the infrastructure milestone, the Prime Minister noted that over one crore (10 million) commuters now rely on metro systems daily. This massive scaling has fundamentally redefined urban mobility, directly translating to reduced traffic congestion, increased daily productivity, preserved family time, and expanded economic opportunities for citizens across the country.
