The Department of Science and Technology (DST) has officially wrapped up its high-impact Special Campaign 6, conducted from October 2 to October 31, 2026.
Aligned with the visionary guidelines of the Department of Administrative Reforms & Public Grievances (DARPG), the month-long nationwide drive has successfully institutionalised the core tenets of Swachhata (cleanliness), slashed administrative pendencies, modernised record management, and unlocked valuable office space across its vast network of autonomous institutions, subordinate offices, missions, and Technology Innovation Hubs (TIHs).
Surpassing Cleanliness and Governance Targets
The campaign witnessed overwhelming participation and enthusiasm at all levels. Far exceeding its initial target of 584 cleanliness sites, the Department successfully cleared and transformed 906 cleanliness sites spanning laboratories, campuses, public areas, and office buildings.
Beyond physical cleanliness, the campaign underscored a deep commitment to responsive, citizen-centric governance. The DST achieved a remarkable 100% disposal rate for all 12 Members of Parliament (MP) References received during the campaign window. Furthermore, administrative responsiveness was on full display as the Department successfully resolved 164 Public Grievances and disposed of 21 Public Grievance Appeals.
Reclaiming Space and Driving Revenue
A major highlight of Special Campaign 6 was the systematic dismantling of administrative bottlenecks and red tape, resulting in tangible economic and spatial dividends:
-
Space Optimisation: Through the systematic clearance of obsolete records, scrap materials, and redundant furniture, the Department successfully freed up an impressive 1,72,798 square feet of prime office space.
-
Revenue Generation: Disposal activities surrounding e-waste, scrap, and unserviceable goods successfully generated Rs 25.96 lakh in revenue.
Modernising Record Management and Digital Efficiency
Underpinning the physical transformation was a rigorous overhaul of administrative file systems. Under the leadership of the Department, officials reviewed 15,665 physical files—substantially outperforming the target of 9,199 files—while achieving a flawless 100% review rate across all 2,516 identified e-files.
By weeding out 13,031 physical files and officially closing 1,786 e-files, a staggering total of 14,817 files were successfully cleared or closed. This massive administrative pruning has fundamentally streamlined operations, reduced document clutter, and accelerated decision-making pathways.
Amplifying Impact Through Digital Outreach
Recognising the power of public engagement and institutional transparency, the DST leveraged modern digital ecosystems to broadcast the campaign’s milestones. More than 690 engaging social media posts detailing cleanliness drives, e-waste recycling initiatives, space optimisation success stories, and best practices were actively disseminated across X, Facebook, LinkedIn, and YouTube. This robust outreach not only inspired internal participation across sub-organisations and TIHs but also educated the public on institutional accountability.
The conclusion of Special Campaign 6 marks a watershed moment for the Department of Science and Technology. By fusing meticulous scientific waste management, transparent grievance redressal, and smart resource optimisation, the DST continues to set a gold standard for accountable, efficient, and future-ready governance.
