India made the perfect start to the three-match T20I series against Zimbabwe, registering a convincing 7-wicket victory in the opening encounter at Harare Sports Club on Thursday and quickly putting behind the disappointment of their forgettable tour of England.

Led by Shreyas Iyer, the visitors delivered a clinical all-round performance to take a 1-0 lead. Opting to bowl first after winning the toss, India’s pace battery made immediate inroads. Mayank Yadav and Prince Yadav ripped through Zimbabwe’s top order with disciplined, high-pace spells, reducing the hosts to 32/4 inside eight overs.

Though Ryan Burl (26), Wessly Madhevere (39) and Tadiwanashe Marumani (27*) showed fight in the middle and death overs, India’s bowlers refused to loosen their grip. Mayank Yadav and Prince Yadav finished with two wickets each as Zimbabwe could manage only 125/7 in 20 overs.

The chase was never in doubt. Teenage sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi provided a blistering start with a maiden T20I fifty off just 19 balls at a strike rate above 250, setting the tone. Ishan Kishan offered stability with a composed 35, while captain Shreyas Iyer remained unbeaten to guide India home comfortably with 40 balls to spare.

Shreyas Iyer (India Captain):

Exceptional performance from the team. The bowlers were tremendous… I couldn’t be happier to start my captaincy stint with a win. Vaibhav is fearless, and the confidence he carries is remarkable.

Mayank Yadav (Player of the Match):

It feels great to contribute to a win… I really enjoyed bowling on this surface because of the bounce and seam movement. Our bowling unit worked together brilliantly.

Sikandar Raza (Zimbabwe Captain):

We were not up to the required standard today. The moisture in the pitch played a role early on… Hopefully we get better batting conditions in the coming matches.

With momentum firmly on their side, India will look to seal the series in the next two encounters on July 25 and 26. Zimbabwe, meanwhile, must regroup quickly if they are to challenge the visitors in the remaining games.
