India bowling coach Morne Morkel has returned to South Africa due to a family emergency following the passing of his father.
Morkel departed from Dubai on February 17, just days before India’s first Champions Trophy 2025 match against Bangladesh.
Morkel was expected to guide India’s bowling attack, which is already missing star fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah. Known for his close relationship with his father, Morkel revealed in an earlier interview that his first call after getting the India job was to his father.
India will play their group-stage matches in Dubai against Bangladesh, Pakistan, and New Zealand. If they progress, the semi-finals and final will also be held at the Dubai International Stadium.
The cricket community extends its condolences to Morne Morkel during this difficult time.
