The Indian and South African cricket teams began arriving in Bhubaneswar today ahead of the much-anticipated match at Barabati Stadium, setting off excitement among fans across Odisha. Both squads landed at the city airport on specially arranged flights, signalling the start of an action-packed cricket weekend.
Several key Indian players — Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, Shubman Gill, Shivam Dube, Axar Patel, Sanju Samson, Jitesh Sharma, and Varun Chakravarthy — are scheduled to reach Bhubaneswar by Saturday, further boosting the build-up among supporters eager to watch their favourite athletes in action.
On the South African side, David Miller, Reeza Hendricks, Tristan Stubbs, Donavon Ferreira, and George Linde have already arrived. The remaining squad members will join after completing ongoing commitments.
Preparations at Barabati Stadium are progressing rapidly. Fire Safety Director General Sudhanshu Sarangi, along with senior fire officials, conducted an on-site inspection to ensure strong and reliable fire safety arrangements.
The Commissionerate Police, led by Commissioner Dev Datta Singh, confirmed that a comprehensive three-tier security system is in place. This includes enhanced crowd-management measures to ensure the safety of players, officials, and spectators throughout the event.
Despite minor delays caused by airline scheduling disruptions, officials stated that all players will arrive on time as per the revised schedule. Ticket counters across the state witnessed heavy footfall, with fans lining up early to secure seats for the game. While some expressed disappointment due to limited availability, authorities encouraged viewers to enjoy live telecasts if stadium entry is not possible.
No incidents of ticket black marketing have been reported so far, though police teams remain vigilant.
With enhanced safety protocols, robust security, and overwhelming fan enthusiasm, Barabati Stadium is set to host yet another electrifying cricket encounter — promising not only a thrilling sporting contest but also a celebratory experience for the people of Odisha.
