The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast widespread rainfall and thunderstorms across Odisha for the next five days, issuing a Yellow Warning for lightning and gusty winds in several districts.

The alert, released by the Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar, is valid from July 11 through July 16.

According to the IMD’s synoptic report, the active Monsoon trough currently stretches from Sri Ganganagar through Rohtak, Shahjahanpur, Basti, and Muzaffarpur, extending east-southeast towards Manipur. This system is driving the prevailing weather conditions across the state.

For the next 24 hours, thunderstorms with lightning and surface winds of 30–40 kmph are likely in districts including Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghapur, Kataka, Sundaragada, Jharsuguda, Baragada, Sambalpur, Debagada, Kendujhar, Mayurbhanj, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khordha, and Nayagada. Heavy rainfall is also expected in Sundargarh, Kendujhar, and Mayurbhanj.

Warnings continue through July 13–14 for coastal and northern districts, while July 15–16 narrows the focus to Baleshwar, Kendujhar, and Mayurbhanj. Rainfall is expected to persist beyond July 16, though no formal warnings are in place.

Observations recorded this morning show heavy rainfall in Khordha and Nayagada, with Balipatna (Khordha) reporting 9 cm, Nayagarh 7 cm, and Bissem-Cuttack (Rayagada) 6 cm. Nuapada registered the highest maximum temperature at 35°C, while Boudhagada recorded the lowest minimum at 20°C.

For Bhubaneswar, the forecast indicates a cloudy sky with possible rain or thunderstorms. Maximum and minimum temperatures are expected around 35°C and 27°C.

Farmers have been advised to exercise caution, while fishermen along the Odisha coast are urged to remain vigilant as weather warnings remain in effect until July 15.
