Odisha continues to face a rainfall deficit, with the State recording just 1.4 mm average rainfall in the past 24 hours against the normal 9.2 mm, marking a deviation of –85%.
According to the IMD Bhubaneswar Centre, most districts are showing a large deficiency in rainfall. The highest rainfall was recorded at Borigumma in Koraput (36 mm), followed by Tensa in Sundaragada (20.6 mm), Bhubaneswar (17.6 mm), Sarasakana in Mayurbhanj (13 mm), and Muruda (11.4 mm). Other notable figures include Balipatna (11 mm), Gania (10 mm), Jeypore (10 mm), and Paradip (8.2 mm).
Temperature readings showed Puri at 34.8°C (highest) and Boudh at 19°C (lowest). Bhubaneswar recorded 34.2°C maximum and 25.4°C minimum, while Kataka reported 34.4°C maximum and 23.8°C minimum.
The IMD forecast indicates no significant rainfall till Sept 8. However, from Sept 9 (8:30 AM) to Sept 10 (8:30 AM), isolated heavy rainfall is likely in Sundaragada, Mayurbhanj, and Kendujhar districts, with a ‘Watch’ level advisory issued.
Residents in north Odisha have been advised to remain cautious and adopt necessary safety measures during thunderstorms and heavy showers.
