The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow warning for rain, thunderstorms and lightning in 11 districts of Odisha, including the twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, on Wednesday.
According to the Regional Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar, light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning is likely at one or two places over the next three hours, prompting authorities to advise residents to remain cautious.
11 Odisha districts under yellow warning
The IMD has issued the weather alert for the following districts:
- Khordha (including Bhubaneswar)
- Cuttack (including Cuttack city)
- Ganjam
- Keonjhar
- Bhadrak
- Jajpur
- Angul
- Kendrapara
- Jagatsinghpur
- Dhenkanal
- Nayagarh
Weather officials said these districts could witness light to moderate rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning, during the forecast period.
Residents advised to remain alert
The weather department has urged people to remain vigilant as localised weather conditions may deteriorate rapidly. Residents have been advised to avoid open spaces during thunderstorms, take shelter in safe buildings and follow updates issued by the IMD and local administration.
The latest advisory comes as a low-pressure area over the northwest Bay of Bengal continues to strengthen monsoon activity across Odisha, increasing the likelihood of widespread rainfall in several parts of the state.
Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and are expected to issue additional district-wise advisories if weather conditions intensify.
