In a striking development, police in Ganjam district arrested two individuals for illegally selling SIM cards to foreign nationals arriving at the Gopalpur Port.

The accused, identified as G. Samba and mobile SIM vendor M. Kameya from Katuru, were found selling SIM cards using forged documents, including fake names and fingerprints of acquaintances.

The police seized 70 SIM cards and foreign currency amounting to $22 during the operation. It was revealed that G. Samba, working as a foreman at Gopalpur Port, was facilitating the distribution, charging foreign nationals between Rs 2,000 to Rs 3,000 per SIM card. M Kameya provided these SIM cards for Rs 400 each.

Both individuals are in Aryapalli Marine Police custody and have been presented to the Court. An investigation is underway to determine the extent of this illegal operation and identify other associates involved.

SDPO Chatrapur Chandana Ghadei emphasized the importance of vigilance against such illicit activities, assuring that further inquiries would unveil additional culprits and connections.
