The prime accused in the shocking Gariapali triple murder case, Ramesh Garia, died late Saturday night after consuming poison.
He had been undergoing treatment in the ICU at VIMSAR, Burla, where his condition deteriorated critically.
On March 11, Ramesh allegedly killed his wife, Gul Garia, daughter-in-law Lipi Garia, and four-year-old granddaughter Ishani Garia by repeatedly striking them with a hammer during a domestic quarrel. The victims died on the spot, and Ramesh fled the scene.
On March 13, villagers spotted him hiding atop an overhead water tank. Police and fire personnel attempted to bring him down, but before being rescued, Ramesh consumed poison in a desperate act. Authorities rushed him first to Kundheigola hospital, then to Deogarh District Headquarters Hospital, and finally to Burla for advanced treatment. Despite medical efforts, he succumbed late at night.
