Pabitra Mohan Panigrahi, the Assistant Executive Engineer (AEE) of Chitrakonda Block, Malkangiri District, was arrested for carrying unaccounted cash amounting to Rs 5,07,000.
Further investigations led to the seizure of Rs 18.11 lakhs in cash and the unearthing of assets worth several crores, including properties and gold jewelry.
During searches at his residence and other related locations, Vigilance teams discovered a 3 BHK flat in Bhubaneswar, four high-value plots, and insurance investments totaling over Rs 72.2 lakhs. Authorities also seized gold jewelry, a Tata Nexon car, and other assets, which are currently under verification.
Sri Panigrahi, who has held government service roles since 1996, faced the charges under the Prevention of Corruption Act. Following his interception on April 11, the case was registered, and he was presented before the Hon’ble Special Judge, Vigilance, in Jeypore.
This case shines a light on the persistent issue of corruption within public services and demonstrates Odisha Vigilance’s relentless efforts to address this malpractice.
