A PhD research scholar at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi passed away on Saturday, October 3, 2026, at the AIIMS Trauma Centre, where he had been undergoing treatment since mid-August.
The student was originally found unconscious and severely injured on August 18 at his rented accommodation in South Delhi’s Munirka Village. Following a complaint by the Security Officer of IIT Delhi and directions from the Supreme Court, the Delhi Police registered a First Information Report (FIR) under Section 108 (abetment of suicide) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at the Kishangarh Police Station.

- Discovery at Residence: Neighbors knocked on the student’s room door after receiving no response throughout the day on August 18. Finding the door locked from the inside, they forced it open and discovered the scholar lying unconscious with severe injuries.
