Gaza: The Israel Defense Force on Thursday confirmed that Hamas military chief Mohammed Deif had been killed in a strike it carried out on July 13 in Gaza’s southern area of Khan Yunis.
The Israeli military made it clear that they were 100 per cent sure that Deif was killed in the attack
“The IDF (Israeli army) announces that on July 13th, 2024, IDF fighter jets struck in the area of Khan Yunis, and following an intelligence assessment, it can be confirmed that Mohammed Deif was eliminated in the strike,” a military statement said.
While the IDF said that they received confirmation after an intelligence assessment that confirmed the Hamas leader’s death, they did not reveal what the new confirmatory information was. The strikes killed at least 90 Palestinians and were conducted in an area which was designated as a humanitarian zone for displaced families.
The Jewish nation maintained that Israel said the attack targeted a “Hamas compound” and was based on “surgical intelligence.” Interestingly, the announcement about Deif’s killing came after the Wednesday killing of Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran.
It also came after the Tuesday killing of senior Hezbollah commander Fuad Shukr in an Israeli strike outside Beirut. The IDF noted that Shukr was responsible for a strike in the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights that killed 12 children at a soccer field. However, Hezbollah has denied conducting the attacks.
