The Water Resources Department has confirmed that Odisha is not facing any flood situation at present, with all major rivers flowing below danger levels.
Chief Engineer Dilip Raut told reporters that the Baitarani, Brahmani, and Salandi rivers are flowing below warning levels, easing concerns of flooding. He assured that there is no threat of flood formation in the state.
At Hirakud reservoir, water is currently being released through 16 gates. Heavy rainfall in Chhattisgarh and upper catchment areas has raised the water level to 623.19 feet, with inflow at 3.38 lakh cusecs and outflow at 2.88 lakh cusecs.
In the Mahanadi system, water flow has increased at Khairmal and Barmul. By evening, 6.5 lakh cusecs of water is expected at Munduli, but officials stressed it will remain below danger levels.
Raut added that if rainfall continues in the upper catchment, Hirakud’s water level may rise further, and gates will be adjusted accordingly. He reiterated that all systems are under control, with continuous monitoring of river levels and reservoir status. Residents in low‑lying areas have been advised to remain alert.
