External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar has warned that escalating tariff tensions between the United States and China are driving the world towards profound economic upheaval.
Speaking at the Carnegie India Global Technology Summit, he underscored India’s urgent need for a bilateral trade deal with the US, amid shifting geopolitical landscapes and evolving strategic interests.
Jaishankar emphasized that trade is no longer purely business; it intertwines with politics, defense, and sensitive sectors, reflecting the complexities of global relations.
He acknowledged the challenges posed by US-China relations and advocated for India to redefine its priorities in response to these dynamics. Despite India’s readiness to fast-track the trade agreement, hesitation from the US side has slowed progress.
