With the vibrant festival of Holi just days away, the Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Police Commissionerate has launched a proactive campaign to ensure a safe and eco-friendly celebration for residents.
In a special press release issued today by the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Bhubaneswar, citizens have been urged to observe the festival, set for this Saturday, in a disciplined and responsible manner.
Following Supreme Court guidelines and prioritizing public health, the police have directed all color vendors in the city to switch to herbal colors and refrain from selling harmful chemical-based alternatives. To enforce this, a surprise inspection drive was initiated under the leadership of Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Subrat Kumar. The operation saw collaboration between local police station officers, the State Pollution Control Board, and senior environmental scientists from the Environment Science Department.
The raids targeted shops across Bhubaneswar, with specific checks conducted in bustling markets under Saheed Nagar and Nayapalli police stations. The focus was to curb the sale of toxic chemical colors, which pose health risks and environmental hazards.
In their appeal to the public, the police requested citizens to avoid anti-social activities during the festivities and to celebrate with consideration for others’ well-being and enjoyment. “We urge everyone to play a herbal Holi this year,” the release stated, a sentiment echoed by both law enforcement and scientific experts involved in the campaign. The message concluded with a simple yet powerful reminder: “Stay healthy, stay safe.”
As Bhubaneswar gears up for Holi, this joint effort by the police and environmental authorities underscores a growing push for greener, safer celebrations in the city.
