A powerful deep depression over the region has brought relentless heavy to very heavy rainfall across Odisha over the past 24 hours, inundating several districts and throwing normal life out of gear.
Data released by the Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar at 08:30 AM today reveals a stark weather picture across the state: seven stations registered very heavy rainfall, while 58 additional stations recorded heavy downpours.

Similiguda in Koraput district emerged as the wettest location in the state, recording an astounding 193.9 mm of rain in just 24 hours. Southern and coastal districts experienced the brunt of the weather system, with several areas crossing significant rainfall thresholds.

Widespread Downpours Cross State Limits
Beyond the peak rainfall pockets, continuous showers lashed multiple key towns and centres. Banki in Cuttack (Kataka) received 112.0 mm, followed by Ghasipura in Keonjhar (Kendujhar) with 110.2 mm, Jaleswar (Jaipur) in Balasore with 107.2 mm, Malkangiri town with 101.0 mm, and Bari in Jajpur with 100.0 mm.
In addition, multiple stations in Ganjam, Mayurbhanj, Jajpur, Nayagarh, Kandhamal, Koraput, Khordha, Cuttack, and Nabarangpur reported heavy precipitation ranging between 64 mm and 99 mm. Authorities continue to monitor low-lying areas in heavily affected districts, particularly Mayurbhanj, Ganjam, and Jajpur, where sustained heavy downpours remain a key concern.
