Odisha witnessed widespread rainfall and thunderstorms across multiple districts, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing orange and yellow alerts for the coming days.

The seasonal trough extended from Punjab to Bihar, triggering unstable weather conditions across the state.

Reports confirmed heavy rainfall in parts of northern Odisha, including Boudh and Dhenkanal, while interior and coastal regions experienced moderate showers. Tragically, two deaths were reported in Nayagarh due to storm-related incidents. Recorded rainfall included 9 cm in Rajghat (Boudh), 8 cm in Bhuban (Dhenkanal), and 6 cm each in Ghasiapura and Jajpur.

The IMD noted rising temperatures in coastal Odisha, with some areas recording increases of 2–3°C. Interior districts saw drops of 5–7°C, while the state’s highest temperature was 39.4°C in Sambalpur and the lowest 21.9°C in Boudh.

Forecasts indicated light to moderate rainfall across many districts, with orange alerts for Boudh, Bhadrak, Mayurbhanj, Kalahandi, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, and Gajapati, warning of heavy rain, thunderstorms, and winds up to 50 kmph. Yellow alerts were issued for Jajpur, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Balangir, and several others.

Farmers were advised to take precautions against crop damage, while residents were urged to stay indoors during lightning and avoid unsafe structures. The IMD warned of possible waterlogging, traffic disruptions, and damage to weak buildings and banana plantations.
