The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued multiple weather alerts for Odisha as a cyclonic circulation over the northern Bay of Bengal is likely to intensify into a low-pressure area on Thursday, triggering widespread rainfall across the state.

As per the latest forecast, Red Warnings—the highest level of alert—have been issued for Mayurbhanj and Keonjhar districts, where extremely heavy rain is expected on Friday.

Rainfall Warnings:

  • Orange Alert (Heavy to Very Heavy Rainfall today):
    Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Koraput, Malkangiri

  • Yellow Warning (Thunderstorms, Lightning, Gusty Winds):
15 districts including Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Jajpur, Dhenkanal, Angul, Deogarh, and Sundargarh

  • Red Warning (Extremely Heavy Rainfall on Friday):
    Mayurbhanj and Keonjhar

  • Extended Rainfall Alert:
Rain likely to persist across Odisha till July 27

The IMD has warned of isolated intense rainfall in parts of northern and southern Odisha starting today, with precipitation activity expected to increase significantly over the next two days.

Fishermen Alerted

With rough sea conditions anticipated, fishermen have been strictly advised not to venture into the sea between July 24 and 27.

Precautionary Measures

State authorities have urged residents in low-lying and flood-prone areas to stay vigilant and follow safety advisories.
