A devastating accident occurred in Kalahandi district on the main road connecting Lanjigarh to Balabhadrapur.
Two motorbikes collided head-on, resulting in the death of one rider and leaving another critically injured.
The deceased, identified as 22-year-old Purna Chandra Mali from Balabhadrapur village, was traveling towards Lanjigarh when his bike collided with another coming from the opposite direction, ridden by 35-year-old Ranjit Majhi from Pratappur village. The impact left both riders severely injured, and their bikes were completely wrecked.
Local residents, along with social activist Subash Agarwal, rushed to the scene and transported the injured to Lanjigarh CHC via ambulance. Unfortunately, Purna Chandra Mali was declared dead upon arrival, while Ranjit Majhi was transferred to Bhawanipatna District Headquarters Hospital for advanced treatment due to his critical condition.
Police from the Lanjigarh station have seized the vehicles and initiated an investigation. The incident underscores the urgent need for improved road safety measures to prevent such tragedies.
