Harsh Goenka has urged employees across the RPG Group to embrace work-from-home arrangements, reduce air travel and adopt sustainable commuting practices after Prime Minister Narendra Modi called for nationwide fuel-saving and austerity measures.
The move comes amid growing concerns over global fuel supply disruptions linked to tensions in West Asia and rising pressure on international energy markets. Sharing the advisory publicly on social media, Harsh Goenka said corporates should lead by example during challenging times.
In a letter issued to employees, Goenka stressed the importance of responsible resource utilisation and urged teams across the RPG Group to support the national effort toward energy conservation.
“As you are aware, the Hon. Prime Minister has called for a renewed national focus on austerity and responsible resource utilisation,” the letter stated. It further added that the group must demonstrate leadership by adopting these measures wholeheartedly.
One of the major announcements in the advisory was the encouragement of remote working wherever possible. Employees whose roles support flexible operations have been advised to work from home under the group’s remote working policy.
The company has also decided to sharply reduce travel expenses. According to the advisory, foreign travel should be limited to only essential requirements, while domestic air travel must be significantly reduced. Employees have also been encouraged to avoid unnecessary intercity meetings and conferences.
The RPG Group additionally promoted sustainable transportation practices. The company said future company-owned or leased vehicles should preferably be electric or hybrid models as part of its long-term sustainability goals.
The advisory further highlighted the importance of virtual collaboration. Internal reviews, interviews and regular meetings are expected to take place online whenever feasible in order to minimise travel and fuel consumption.
Employees were also encouraged to use public transport systems such as metro and rail services, along with carpooling options, to reduce dependency on private vehicles.
Sharing the letter on social media, Harsh Goenka wrote that RPG Group had responded positively to the Prime Minister’s call for austerity and responsible allocation of resources. He also expressed hope that other corporate houses would follow similar measures.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently appealed to citizens and organisations to reduce fuel usage and adopt more sustainable habits amid ongoing geopolitical tensions affecting energy supplies globally. The Prime Minister also encouraged the use of public transport, carpooling and work-from-home arrangements wherever practical.
The growing push for hybrid work and reduced corporate travel is now gaining wider attention as companies balance operational efficiency with sustainability and rising fuel costs.
